In 2017 the association conducted an operational review to determine how to better serve our members and the industry. Thereafter, the SkipNet Directory was created to assist bail bond companies with locating fugitive recovery agents across the nation.
Additionally, an apprentice category of membership was established to allow those that are looking to enter the profession to join and receive a listing in the directory for their state with an apprentice designation notated on their listing. The benefit of the SkipNet Directory to aspiring fugitive recovery agents is that it provides valuable exposure that can help connect them with experienced fugitive recovery agents for the purpose of mentoring. Apprentice members are issued member registration numbers that begin with the letter A. Member registration numbers are recorded under the member profile in our national registry and listed on the certificate of membership and the photo membership card.
On March 7, 2019 NAFRA member and special advisor Scott MacLean attended an important Bail Policy Summit hosted by the Heritage Foundation in Washington D.C. as the representative of the association. The summit was attended by high level decision makers and stakeholders including a former United States Attorney General. Scott was able to represent the interests of our members and dispel many myths about the industry bringing an honest and accurate perspective to the debate about the future of the commercial bail bond industry and the bail bond fugitive recovery profession.
On December 9, 2019, after consultation with fugitive tracking professionals in the international community, NAFRA president Chuck Jordan visited the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Netherlands, after lengthy discussion with stakeholders the NAFRA chartered the International Bounty Hunter Union (IBHU) in January 2020. The International Bounty Hunter Union (IBHU) is the trade organization for (non bail bond) fugitive tracking professionals operating in the international realm, assisting governments, INTERPOL and the United Nations with bringing high profile fugitives accused of Terrorism, Drug Trafficking, War Crimes and Genocide to justice for the purpose of earning substantial rewards, primarily through the Rewards for Justice program.
